When it comes to segregation, it is divided into aggregate segregation and temperature segregation.
Aggregate segregation refers to the aggregation of large-size aggregates in asphalt mixture, which is in an obvious uneven mixing state, which is generally caused by mechanical factors; Temperature segregation refers to the obvious difference in the temperature of each part of asphalt mixture.
1. Loading and unloading skills
When the storage barrel is loaded to the transport vehicle, due to gravity and height, the large aggregate rolls on both sides, front and back, forming the first concentration of aggregate. In order to change this situation, it shall be stacked at the front, middle and rear of the transport vehicle respectively, so that the large aggregate and small aggregate can be mixed again when unloading to the dump truck.
2. The mode of transportation is skilled
The bumps during transportation can also cause the concentration of large-size aggregates. At the same time, due to the contact between the surface of the pile and the air during transportation, the temperature decreases rapidly, while the temperature in the center of the pile decreases slowly, resulting in temperature segregation. Therefore, when selecting the site for the mixing site, try not to be too far away from the mixing site and the paving site. At the same time, the transportation channel shall be properly leveled and the driving speed shall be reduced to minimize bumps during transportation; Thermal insulation measures (especially long-distance transportation) shall be taken for the stockpile, such as tarpaulin, etc.
(1) If the vibrating screen in the asphalt mixer breaks locally, some large-diameter aggregate exceeding the specification will be mixed in the mixture. Therefore, it shall be checked frequently and the vibrating screen shall be replaced if necessary.
(2) Short mixing time or falling off of mixing leaves in the mixer may also lead to uneven mixing or uneven temperature. Therefore, the relevant parts in the mixer shall be checked frequently, the mixing time shall be strictly controlled, and attention shall be paid to observe whether there is obvious aggregation of large aggregate and small aggregate in the mixture. If found, the cause shall be found out in time and handled in time.
To sum up, the occurrence of segregation is mainly due to the above problems. Once segregation occurs, not only the work progress will be delayed, but also the pavement quality will be reduced. We must take warning.
